Glad the baby is growing well!

I loose weight every time I go to the doctor too, but I have tons of extra as well. I got a referral FINALLY to a nutritionist so that we can closely monitor the gain, and safely take it off after she comes too!

And thanks for reminding me - I need to make my birth plan!

You know what is sad? A lot of high school teachers make it quite clear to girls that it is very hard and stressful, and there are even teen moms at our school who can vouch for just how hard it is, but girls get pregnant because
a) they don't believe it until they experience it themselves
b) they just don't think it will happen to them

They think that one time without protection won't get them pregnant... but then it does, and then they think it won't be that big a deal, but then it is... it's just reality

The selfish, but smart ones get divorced before getting to the point where kids are involved. That's why I got the heck out. Now you know he was a dumbass but still, if you can't respect him before kids, don't freaking have kids with him like that's the freaking solution.

Oh yeah I've heard my share of crazy MIL stories. My advice to those people typically is limit contact, or cut it off. Some of the stories though I can't see the crazy, like wanting to visit once a month (seriously was a complaint). Or wanting to come after the baby is born to visit for a weekend (as if this is a bad thing). I guess it could be hormones of course, it's just hard to read sometimes because I feel bad for the hubby's that clearly have close family relationships and are being forced to choose.

I completely and totally understand. (I will share something with you in person later today too that I can really empathize with you on.) Although being Vinny's mom is the greatest identity I have ever had, I too went through a stage (right about when I joined the Mamas group actually) when I was starting to really feel sad that I had somehow lost myself in there. To be perfectly honest, this is one of the major reasons I work full-time. I also appreciate that it allows me to have things like a house of my own, health insurance, a housekeeper, and spending money (sometimes!) too, but I am a simple person and could have easily gotten by living in an apartment and not having anything exciting had I chosen not to work. However... I choose to do something I love- teaching. It is another part of my identity. It is what God has called me to do, and I find a lot of fulfillment in life knowing that I make a difference outside of my home. I know that I make a difference as Vinny's mom too, but making a difference in my classroom is a different feeling. Still... now... I get envious sometimes of Marc that he has so many things other than just being Dad. He gets to do youth ministry and swimming. So, at Marc's urging, I have decided to start dancing. I was always too nervous to before, because I couldn't find beginners classes for adults, and I am truly a beginner. But I found some, and I want to do it, so I am gonna give it a shot! You will find your niche too. Just think, "What have I always wanted to do? What is stopping me? How can I work around whatever is stopping me?"

The vast majority of professionals agree that child buttock-battering isn’t healthy. A marginal few (mostly religious fundamentalists as those at Calvin) think that child bottom-slapping is good. They use the same selective literalist interpretation of the Bible as was used to justify “witch”-burning, depraved torture methods for those accused of sin and heresy, slavery, racism, wife-beating, oppression of women and a host of other social ills.

Child buttock-battering vs. DISCIPLINE:

Child buttock-battering (euphemistically labeled "spanking","swatting","switching","smacking", "paddling",or other cute-sounding names) for the purpose of gaining compliance is nothing more than an inherited bad habit.

Its a good idea for people to take a look at what they are doing, and learn how to DISCIPLINE instead of hit.

I think the reason why television shows like "Supernanny" and "Dr. Phil" are so popular is because that is precisely what many (not all) people are trying to do.

There are several reasons why child bottom-slapping isn't a good idea. Here are some good, quick reads recommended by professionals:

Plain Talk About Spanking
by Jordan Riak,

The Sexual Dangers of Spanking Children
by Tom Johnson,

NO VITAL ORGANS THERE, So They Say
by Lesli Taylor M.D. and Adah Maurer Ph.D.

Most compelling of all reasons to abandon this worst of all bad habits is the fact that buttock-battering can be unintentional sexual abuse for some children. There is an abundance of educational resources, testimony, documentation, etc available on the subject that can easily be found by doing a little research with the recommended reads-visit www.nospank.net.

Just a handful of those helping to raise awareness of why child bottom-slapping isn't a good idea:

American Academy of Pediatrics,
American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry,
Center For Effective Discipline,
Churches' Network For Non-Violence,
Nobel Peace Prize recipient Archbishop Desmond Tutu,
Parenting In Jesus' Footsteps,
Global Initiative To End All Corporal Punishment of Children,
United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child.

In 26 countries, child corporal punishment is prohibited by law (with more in process). In fact, the US was the only UN member that did not ratify the Convention on the Rights of the Child.

I don't need to check my salvation at all and frankly how would you like it if someone told you that because you didn't believe as they did? Seriously?

This is why people judge Christianity as they do, because someone didn't believe as you, because I happen to believe that politics destroys religion and corrupts it, I don't know the Lord properly?

What's to say you're right and I'm wrong? What if I have it right? What if my relationship with the Lord is what the Lord intended for me? And what if my beliefs are exactly what the Lord intended for me?

I just happen to believe that loving others means that we don't push beyond what is asked of us. This would be a whole different conversation if someone was in office who was Muslim and was pushing that all women wear head scarfs. You wouldn't be saying that they are standing up for themselves. You'd be rallying against it, because who are they to force their beliefs on us.

Just because we believe we're right, doesn't meant we get to force our belief of being right on others. Muslims, Jews, Hindus all think they're right as well. But you don't see them (although the Jews can be linked to Christianity in a way) pushing laws based on their religious tenants.

I think you need to sit back and look at what you're doing and whether it makes Christian's look good. Because oddly enough you're doing exactly what makes people hate us so much, judging others because you didn't happen to agree with what I wrote.

I don't judge your salvation, I'm pretty sure you've come to your conclusions as the Lord has intended and have the relationship the Lord wants you to have with Him. I would never question anyone's belief in the Lord. Never say they aren't saved, and certainly never imply that they are "fighting demons" or even have demons in them (although that's another part of the Bible I believe is horribly misinterpreted). Because I don't have that knowledge to make that sort of judgement, only the Lord does. I don't presume to know anyone's status on the "Saved" meter. And I certainly wouldn't go around making those sorts of judgements on people.

I never said in any of my posts to McMamas blog that her beliefs were wrong, that anyone was wrong, I gave my view on why Christianity is judged so harshly in this nation. You sort of proved my point in a way. You gave an opinion on salvation where none was requested and instead of "helping" and "teaching" you just pissed me off because your advice, opinion, and accusations were unwanted and unneeded.

For anyone confused as to what the heck we're talking about McMama (I've posted about her son before) wrote a blog entry about Christianity and how "intolerant" people in this nation in particular are of the religion. I gave the opinion that it's because Christianity is so big and vocal over the other religions and in particular we try to make laws based on religious tenants, and if we didn't do that perhaps people wouldn't have a reason or even much of a weapon to be intolerant of us. That politics corrupt religion and it's sad because Christianity is something great in my opinion, but people don't get to see the good that much anymore because of all the hypocrites in the gov.
