Sir Patrick Stewart!
Patrick Stewart, the best damn actor ever, is now a Knight! Pretty cool.
Now if only they would do another Star Trek movie since the timeline has been rewritten and all.
What I wouldn't give to see the Enterprise-E back on the big screen. That ship was beautiful.
The West Wing…
I've officially become obsessed with the West Wing lately. I doubt it's an accurate representation of what happens in the White House but it's fun to watch. When it was on TV previously I was a "republican" so I hated it with a passion because I didn't like how they dealt with the issues but now that I'm more middle road I can watch and be okay with how some of it is done.
What sucks the most though is that it comes on at 8am and 9am. We do a lot of stuff at 9am this month so I'm going to miss some. This is where a DVR would come in handy. Maybe I can get a box for my room or something but I'd never have time to watch them in there either. Hmmmmm.
Kaylee has been waking up in the middle of the night or screaming in the middle of the night. It's very annoying. I think it's just her getting used to her bed again. I think I'm going to lay a blanket over the top of her mattress cause it might be chilly for her.
Oh did you see I opened a new store and took my store off this site. I'm hoping that this gets me more hits on the site. I also am going to start making more things, I need to figure out how to make shirts in general for boys and also want to go over to some toys as well to make. I have a concept in mind of a button bear. Just have to figure out what sorts of fabric will work and how to put it together.
Anyhow this is the link to the site: http://www.pamalashandmadechildrensgoodies.com
Star Trek
Star Trek was great. It would have been better on the IMAX screen but it was great on the regular one as well. Some things I missed, the music didn't follow anything we've expected in the past. I wish there would have been a little bit more with that.
Now on to timeline issues. They weren't as big as you'd have believed although technically the movie does reset the entire timeline. What's great about that? We can now pretend that Nemesis never happened and that Data is alive and well. It's not a huge reset of the time-line and of course it could be explained away too with some creative thinking, but hey if we're changing a rather minor aspect of history can't we get rid of the stupidest decision any Star Trek writer has made and not have Data die?
I'm hoping though that this reset though allows for more movies (which if you didn't know they are already writing the next movie due to be released in 2011!). So this reset allows us more films where with a cast that most everyone enjoys and it also opens up the possibilities of seeing some of the newer series as well in film. Who knows maybe DS9 will finally get a film or even Voyager!
So in the end that the reset isn't such a bad thing and really adds a bit to the overall story. It was a great film. Really worth watching. I might just go see it again too. I'll buy it for sure on Blu-Ray when it's released. LOL!!
Who Cares?
I have to write a post about some things going on around the nation that I think are being blown way out of proportion.
1. Miss California apparently believes that marriage is between a man and a woman only. Although I don't agree it's not something that is surprising. People believe that and it's more than fine to do so. I understand that it's angering to hear, but she's one person with a personal belief system and you know what they sometimes differ from others. She can believe what she does all she wants, but that doesn't mean the fight to over turn Prop 8 is some how worthless. There are constitutional issues to be dealt with whether or not she has those personal beliefs. So in the long run why is one person's belief on marriage such a big deal? Who cares!
2. Apparently Jr. and Mears got into a tiff and neither were fined and the conspiracy theorist come out and say that NASCAR is treating Jr. special. Who cares?! First off penalties are rarely handed out this early in the week (typically Tuesday) so unless I'm missing something, and I looked on yahoo and Nascar.com, there is nothing there that says they won't be penalized. And if they aren't, in the grand scheme of things happening in this nation, who cares? Seriously.
3. The Burger King/Spongebob issue is still going strong. It's a commercial people, who cares?! Don't want your kid to see it, turn the TV off.
I'm sure there is more but I can't remember right now because I obviously don't care. LOL!
Death of NASCAR
So I've come to the conclusion that it's the fans that have officially ruined the sport of NASCAR.
The constant complaining that things are done and things are said and penalties not given or penalties given has forced NASCAR to go from being a sport of fun racing to a sport of crap racing full of people who are so PC they are afraid to say antying or do anything and in a lot of cases afraid to even race properly.
Oddly enough this isn't something that is limited to NASCAR. Last night on the Amazing Race Luke and Jen got into a tiff and you would be surprised how many thought both teams should be panalized or kicked off for the incident! I don't get it. It was a little tiff between two teams nothing remotely worth penalties. People these days are so punish happy especially when it comes to people they don't like. If it was them though they'd be all angry.
So here's my suggestion. Take care of yourself and quit trying to get everyone else in trouble or penalized!
Mystery Diagnosis
Tonight's Mystery Diagnosis featured a family who is part of the Congenital Hyperinsulinism support group. It was hard to watch. 1. It was amazing the lack of care doctors showed over what was happening to the child. Luckily their pediatrician wasn't callous enough to tell them to feed their child more. He actually knew something was wrong and worked to find out what. 2. The poor kid's diagnosis took nearly 7 months. 7 MONTHS?! Kaylee got her diagnosis within what 1 day of her third seizure. If we counted back to the first seizure I called the doctor about, it was 3 weeks. I think we're lucky that her pediatrician first listened to us and second knew a good Pediatric Endocrinologist (even if she sucks in general) who easily identified the condition just based on what Dr. Whyte told her.
I'm really lucky to have him as a Pediatrician. And I'm depressed he's leaving the practice. Hopefully we'll be able to continue with him and also with our current Endocrinologist. If it comes down to choosing between Dr. Whyte and our Endocrinologist I think I'm going to have to stick with the Endocrinologist because it's hard to find a good Endocrinologist and he's just plain great. He does so much more than the doctors at CHLA ever did. That will suck though if we can't see Dr. Whyte anymore. Seriously it would suck. He's always done right by Kaylee, how can I trust another doctor who doesn't even know her to take good care of her?
Anyhoot, back to the show. It just pissed me off and made me feel so bad for the family. That poor child has speech delays, delays that may have been avoided had someone just taken the time to try to figure out why he was hypoglycemic. Remember hypoglycemia is a symptom of a condition not a condition in itself.
Step-Brothers…
So Step-Brothers was hilarious. Now it's not something a person who is sensitive would watch. It's hilariously stupid basically and that's typical of those types of movies. You really have to like the actors and the humor in order to enjoy the movie. Talledega Nights was hilarious and this one was just as hilarious as well. It was a good movie to watch today and a good one to watch if you need a laugh.
Speaking of step-brothers tomorrow we're going to the UCLA vs ASU women's softball game which is part of Simi Valley Girls Softball day. We go to almost all of my neices softball games (at least the ones we can make) and I take tons of pictures (you can see them in the My Photos section). We're grooming Kaylee to play as well. She can start I think at 3.5 or at least at 4 years old.
LOL! I love Star Trek: The Next Generation. Great stuff there. Never understood what the writers were thinking with the first three seasons but hey it got better as it went on and that's the point. Best Star Trek ever.
32 paint cards and a Star Trek rant…
That's how many shades of pink I picked up at Lowes today. So now I need to sort through them and pick a color. If anyone wants to help me pick a pink let me know.
On Star Trek front. I can't believe the crap they've pulled with this movie. I mean it looks great but frankly where they got off rewriting the timeline is beyond me. This movie is centered around bringing in people to see the movie, not bringing in the fans. I understand the movie has to make money. But why the fans get screwed in all of this is beyond me. Bring me some TNG and I'll be happy. Lets pretend they didn't kill Data off (and no transfering thoughts into another "Data" doesn't count) and bring back the most beautiful ship ever, the Enterprise E, and have us some great filmage there.
What to write about…
I have to say Kids Club up at the Town Center is turning out to be a bit too crowded these days. I think because it's warmed up a bit but it's not too insanely hot that more people are coming out and they are totally unprepared for the amount of people that come. Hopefully next week it won't be as bad. (Although I'm not sure I'm going next week).
Saturday and Sunday we're doing pictures. Hopefully Kaylee will be fully over her illness. She's technically over it now, just a bit of a voice issue from all the running nose time. But she's not stuffed up anymore or anything like that. We were supposed to go to a play-date tomorrow but I think that's canceled because the little one is sick over there. It's the wind I tell you. This constant change in weather, going from warm to freezing cold, rain to wind, is really not helping any child to stay healthy.
Seriously I have to say NCIS is a great show. I love Mark Harmon. He's just hilarious.
Prayers for Bobby…
If you haven't seen this movie it's a Lifetime Movie about a family who's youngest son opens up at about age 20 and tells them he's gay. Right away his mother goes to work trying to cure him of this disease by sending him to youth church camps, a counselor, and church in general. In the end this attempt to cure him wears him down so much that he eventually kills himself because he can't understand why he feels the way he does even though he knows it's so wrong in the eyes of the Lord.
During the movie there was a portion where the Leviticus laws and other parts of the Bible that address homosexuality were explained in the proper historical and language context. Of course these arguments are routinely ignored by the most staunch religious people. You'll never convince those unwilling to open their minds and learn.
The main point of the movie is that condemning a child (and although Bobby was an adult he grew up in the church which condemned his feelings which he was born with and didn't choose) over something they have no control over is bound to lead children to become depressed, perhaps turn to things like alcohol and drugs, or even kill themselves. And it's up to the religious community to support their members, not condemn them and try to "cure" them.
It would be nice if this was practiced. Love, not condemnation. But it's not. God's love is not shown by the church all that often. More often than not we're seeing the condemnation of people. Also what bothers me about the church is members inability and lack of care to research what they're being told. I don't think God intended us to believe blindly. I'm of the belief that the more you research, the more you learn (outside and inside your faith) the closer to God you become.
Anyhow I cried during the last half hour or so of the movie mainly because I'm a sap but also because the truth is that there are people out there that have no problem condemning people and don't give two thoughts about the effects of that condemnation.
